Depot museum & Caboose resoration
Depot museum
June 2019
The historic Depot Museum recently received donations of vintage items from Margaret Coupland Joiner, who was born in Coupland in 1927 and is a direct descendant of Major Coupland who founded the town. She was accompanied by relatives Craig and Debbie Schreiber from Oracle, Arizona. Ted Wittliff noticed the group standing at the Depot and stopped to talk to them. They were soon joined by CCO board member Judy Downing who brought a key and showed them through the Depot. Judy received the historic items from Mrs. Joiner, which included some Civil War uniform buttons from the Major himself and a hand sewn white dress from Coupland of earlier times. Ted said, “Margaret has a lot of memories about Coupland and various folks who lived here. It was very interesting to talk to her.” |
Here are some items that can be found inside the Depot Museum. Contact one of the board members to schedule a tour.
Caboose restoration
THE LATEST PROGRESS (April 2019):
Back in 2010, as part of his Eagle Scout work, Hunter Matysek of Boy Scout Troop 167 of Taylor took on the Depot/Caboose sidewalk project, preparing and reinstalling the old pavers, along with new personalized ones. The Paver Walkway is now being extended so that it will now run from the Depot to the stairway of the Caboose. Personalized pavers will soon be part of the extended walkway. Contact Judy Downing, 512-293-0501, or any board member for information on how to get personalized pavers for a donation of $35 each. It’s a great way to be part of Coupland’s continuing history on the grounds of this historic Depot and Caboose.
In October 2018, Haines Craft Construction installed a new metal roof on the Caboose. In April 2019, they installed exterior windows on both the east and west sides of the Caboose.
